How to play Connections
Connections is one of the most popular (and challenging) daily puzzle games published by the New York Times (owners of Wordle). The aim of Connections is to group the 16 words of the day into four groups, where each group of four words has a common theme.
For instance, the words “Hook”, “Nana”, “Peter”, and “Wendy” are all Peter Pan characters. Or to take another example, “Action”, “Ballpark”, “Go”, and “Stick” are all words which commonly come just before the word “Figure”.
Your job is to figure out what these themes are that connect the various words together – but be wary, because a lot of the time there are deceptive red herring connections placed purely to throw you off! To win the game, you have to find all four Connections without making 4 mistakes. On your fourth mistake, the game is over and the answer is revealed automatically.
Each of the four groups in each day’s Connections puzzle is also assigned a different colour, which represents how easy or difficult the Connection is to find. These colours are: Yellow (Easiest), Green (Easy), Blue (Medium), and Purple (Hardest).

What is today’s Connections answer?
Here is the answer to today’s Connections puzzle on Saturday, 24th May:
- Yellow: Baby Gear (Bib, Bottle, Monitor, Stroller)
- Green: Kinds Of Pants Minus “S” (Capri, Jean, Jogger, Slack)
- Blue: New York Sports Team Members (Jet, Met, Net, Ranger)
- Purple: Black Women Authors (Butler, Gay, Hooks, Walker)

Despite that missing letter at the end, my brains didn’t have much trouble turning ‘jean’ into ‘jeans’ and ‘slack’ into ‘slacks’ today. I actually had more trouble with the yellow theme, as I was missing its fourth member. At least I’ve been reminded of the meaning of ‘bib’!
Just my bad luck that the blue theme was based on sports themes today – not exactly my forte. It’s probably easy if you’re into sports, are a New York resident, or even better; both. To make matters worse, I also struggled to recognise the authors in the purple theme. It’s the type of Connections theme that’s super easy if you happen to possess the right knowledge, but very difficult for everyone who doesn’t.
Luckily, the authors have relatively common last names, so it wasn’t too difficult to do some guesswork just based on that. There’s more than one way to find the Connections answers!
